One of the challenges I knew we would have with the move is I am a very social person. We are leaving behind family and friends and a neighborhood that feels like family. I always had something to do in Tampa, whether it’s porch or swim or walk with friends. Not knowing the language and moving with an introvert would be one of my biggest hurdles. With this in mind, I joined many FB groups to try and get an idea of activities and groups in the Heraklion area. I joined Digital Nomads in Greece, The Best of Crete, Crete Info 2024-2025, Americans in Greece and Expat ladies’ community in Crete. They all provide valuable information and if you’re visiting, I highly recommend joining one or more. As someone trying to make a life here the Expat Ladies group has been amazing. I was lucky enough to arrive at a time when the organizer had just moved to Heraklion and organized a meetup. I met ladies from all over, some who lived here and others who were visiting for the summer. It was the perfect way for me to get my much-needed social time with some great people.

We had such a great time we arranged to head to the beach the next day and that’s where I learned the bus system. They have an easy website for the bus and it’s in English and Greek- you can buy tickets online or on the bus itself- KTEL Heraklion – Crete | Online Ticket Booking for buses I finally got my beach time and made some friends!

The beach was a bit crowded since it was a Sunday but overall, I would call it a great day. 8.5 if you’re tracking on the 1-10 scale:)
We are still working on more tasks at the house, AC for the living room has been ordered- the small AC unit in the bedroom is just not cut out for these heatwaves. A new mattress for the bed will be here on Friday. We have found a car we are going to buy. Jeff starts work later today so I am meeting up with some ladies from the Expats group for dinner. We are doing well but there have been some hiccups- Finn was attacked by a street cat today, we have a bit of an ant problem in the apartment, and we need to find a place to park the car. Otherwise, though school is going well and I’m learning phrases just being here- I’m almost able to order my coffee completely in Greek- siga, siga.
Next week I’m hoping we have the car and can get out of the city for a bit and see some amazing views I know driving around has to offer.
