Day 1

So we made it to Italy, each by a different airline and each with one dog. We made this decision for several reasons, Bella is 15 years old and could not do an 8 hour flight in a travel bag at our feet so we opted for K9Jets for her and Jeff. Finn is too big for most airlines but La Compagnie allows pups up to 33 pounds but they do have to stay in their travel bags at our feet. We also didn’t want one person to have to handle both dogs if we could avoid it.

K9Jets is a great option for any large-sized dogs or if you have 2 small pups they can go for the price of one ticket. Its not cheap but since this is a move and not a vacation we decided this was the only way. K9 was great from start to finish. Once we booked they told us we would have an intro call before the flight to answer all questions. They do require the flight to be 75% booked before they will 100% confirm the flight but I doubt they cancel many flights as they are sold out all summer for NJ to Milan and most other locations. Of course, I watched their booking site like a hawk until we hit 75% but I’m a worrier. Once we hit the 75% we got a confirmation email and had our intro call with the other passengers. All questions were answered and we started getting excited and nervous for the flight.

Doggie slumber party!
Fancy Plane for a pup!

As for Finn and I – we booked La Compagnie, I called to make the reservation as they only allow 3 dogs per flight so I wanted to make sure they had a spot for him. I chose a window seat and hoped my seatmate like dogs. I found this Kaztziela Travel Bag on Amazon and started training him with treats so he was comfortable in it for travel day. He used the same one for the JSX flight to NY. The flight was fine, he was not supposed to get out of the bag but while everyone slept I snuck him under my blanket and we snoozed for a few hours. Most people who have flown La Compagnie said the flight attendant had no problem with the dog out of the bag and my seatmate did like dogs so out he came for sleep time. Oh and he enjoyed the lounge!

One other shout out for my crazy travel day http://www.limousineitaly.com picked Finn and I up at the airport and drive us to the hotel where Bella and Jeff were waiting. He even stopped to let Finn pee in a grassy area- I highly recommend them if you need a ride in Milan.

Reunited!

Next up- train to Ancona then down to Bari
