Day 1

In our plans to keep the pups out of cargo, getting to Milan was only half the battle. In total, this trip is taking us 11 days of travel. Luckily Italy is very dog-friendly so finding hotels was not too difficult. Also, the dogs are allowed on the trains! We simply paid 5 Euro each for them to join us. We used the Trenitalia app to book the trains, super easy.

From Milan, we headed to Ancona, a coastal town that was a 3-hour train ride. Finn was not a fan of the train but Bella chilled the whole ride. Luckily we got a little room on the train, unluckily it was shared with a cat. The owner said the cat didn’t like dogs so she moved herself and her husband to another seat and we had the place to ourselves.

Ancona was ok, we stayed by the train station so maybe not the best area but we slept and showered and prepared for our next day of travel- to Bari. I had heard good things about Bari. Two of our friends are even planning a move there so we had high hopes. Bari did not disappoint! It’s a beautiful city and should be added to your travel list if you have one. Traveling with dogs we didn’t get to go to restaurants but even the to-go food was amazing! Glad we decided to stay 2 nights in Bari and will definitely be back! We stayed at the MommaDada Charm Rooms for anyone who is looking for a great location and adorable place- check them out!

Bari is our last stop in Italy, and we are ready to get to Greece! It was an amazing way to end our Italian adventure. The last day was challenging, we had to check out of our beautiful hotel around 11 and didn’t have the ferry until 7:30 pm. We spent some time eating gelato and having coffee but with dogs, it’s a bit hard to find things to do for that long. Eventually, it was time to head to the ferry but the taxi wouldn’t take the dogs so we walked, which was ruff- pun intended. After more walking than we wanted with our bags, we found our way to the ferry.

Next stop, Patras, Greece! Almost home….

I did the almost 3 hour ferry ride from Mykonos to Santorini without dogs and can only say that was enough of an experience for me. Bless the 4 of you, what a trek!!!

I think having the room to ourselves was the key. I wouldn’t want to do it if we only had seats assigned.
