Day 1

So, we have been here for a month. We have accomplished a lot and learned a ton. It all still feels a little temporary and the language difference is challenging but we are getting there. I have been told that there are 3 steps in expat life. The first step, it all feels like vacation, everything is new and magical. 2nd step is exhausting- you’re tired of everything being hard- learning the ways of daily life, the language, the small differences between here and the US. the 3rd step is the new place feels like home. I would say we are in step 2 but the advantage of that step as hard as it is-means we are moving forward, progressing. I don’t see us moving to the 3rd step for quite some time.

As I look back at our month on Crete, I know we couldn’t do any of this without family. They have embraced us and helped us do little things like make Haircut appointments, open bank accounts, get car insurance, and find a good used car. Hoping that in month 2 my Greek will get better, maybe I will attempt driving the car, find a Pilates studio, and start cooking more at home. I have also reached out to a dog and cat shelter where we plan on volunteering. I just have to make sure Jeff doesn’t attempt to adopt all the dogs.

I have my biometrics appointment next Tuesday- fingerprinting and photo for my residency VISA. Hoping the process goes quickly, I can’t leave the country until it’s done and I’m hoping to go to Naples in August for my birthday and meet up with my boys. The great thing about being here is places like Naples, Italy is a 2-hour direct flight- can’t wait to see more of Europe. Also, I miss my friends so really hoping to see them.

Finally got a few beach days in!
