Below are some of the places I have stayed on Crete, if you are coming in 2025, I recommend you consider one of these. I usually travel with friends so some places I recommend are for groups of 4-6 people. I am not a budget traveler, but I think you’ll notice Crete is well priced even for luxury accommodations:

Chania is a city on the northwest coast of the Greek island of Crete. It’s known for its 14th-century Venetian harbor, narrow streets and waterfront restaurants. At the harbor entrance is a 16th-century lighthouse with Venetian, Egyptian and Ottoman influences. Opposite, the Nautical Museum has model ships, naval objects and photographs. The former monastery of St. Francis houses the Archaeological Museum of Chania.

For the best view and location in Chania check out Domus Renier Boutique Hotel. It was one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. Service is amazing, beds are comfortable, you must get the room service, you won’t be disappointed.
Located in the center of Rethymno I stayed in this charming boutique hotel in the center of old town Casa Dei Delfini. Family run and close to everything, this place is the perfect stop in the heart of the city. The building is an old Venetian mansion and when you stay there you feel the history but with an updated modern twist.

Koutouloufari is a charming village on the northeast area of the island. Nestled in the hills just above Hersonissos, it offers a more relaxed and traditional atmosphere compared to the bustling coastal town below. The village is known for its narrow winding streets, traditional Greek architecture, and a variety of tavernas and cafes serving delicious local cuisine. It’s a great place to experience the authentic Cretan lifestyle while still being close to the popular tourist destinations. If you’re into history and culture, nearby attractions like the Minoan Palace of Knossos and the Heraklion Archaeological Museum are worth exploring. If you’re coming with a group Koutouloufari has something for everyone. We stayed at The Creta Blue Boutique Hotel and I highly recommend it. A family run hotel that is lovely but anyone with mobility issues will have trouble with this one – it is at the top of a pretty steep hill.

If you have a large group and want a villa all to yourself in Koutouloufari with the attention to every detail this is the perfect place for you. We stayed at Kaptara Premium Villa with friends and loved it’s location and amenities. It has 7 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, indoor and outdoor dining areas with an outdoor grill. Piskopiano is just down the street from Koutoulafari and is just as cute. The village also has a variety of tavernas, cafes, and shops where you can enjoy local cuisine and purchase handmade crafts. Piskopiano provides a peaceful retreat while still being within walking distance to the livelier atmosphere of Hersonissos and its beaches.

We stayed at the Aloni Sea View Villa with our group of 6 people, if mobility is an issue this is not the area for you but if you like an after-dinner walk, which I always need after a Greek meal, this place is in a lovely area with amazing night views. The house has everything you need for an enjoyable stay with your friends or family and the owners are very accommodating and welcoming.
Analipsi is another lovely village on the northside of the island, situated not far from Hersonissos. It’s a more laid-back and quiet destination compared to some of the busier tourist spots. The village has retained its traditional Cretan character, featuring white-washed buildings, narrow alleys, and a peaceful atmosphere.

For all kinds of travelers coming to Analipsi check out Sardines Luxury Villas, they offer many different villas to choose from, whether you are looking for 2, 4, or 6 people they have something for all sized groups! Each with a private pool.

For an amazing stop on the south side of the island check out Hora Sfakia, this is a charming coastal village located in the rugged region of Sfakia in southwestern Crete, Greece. This picturesque village is known for its stunning natural beauty, traditional architecture, and a laid-back atmosphere. The village is nestled between the mountains and the Libyan Sea, offering visitors a unique blend of mountainous landscapes and crystal-clear waters. We stayed in The Authentic Village Boutique Hotel and loved it! It had all of the charm of the amazing seaside village, but this new property offered an upscale feeling and I recommend checking it out. The property is not suitable for people with any walking issues, or mobility difficulties, FYI.
